I can safely say that air frying French fries is my new preferred method. Deep fat frying is the industry standard. The air fryer method is kind of a hybrid of the preceding two methods. But I was floored by how much the air fryer French fries tasted like their deep fried brothers!

To start, I peeled about a pound of Yukon Gold potatoes. I like to use Yukon Golds because they have a slight sweetness that just plays so nicely against the salt and pepper seasoning. Then soak your cut potato sticks in cold water for about minutes — or longer if you like. This step is said to leech some of the excess starch from your spuds, which prevents the potatoes from sticking together during the cooking process and results in crispier fries.

This delicious salt and pepper dusted French fries recipe has got to be one of the easiest air fryer recipes of all time! After peeling, cutting, soaking and draining your potatoes, just toss with a tablespoon of good quality extra virgin olive oil. A word of caution: Once your fries are golden brown, plate them up, add a tiny bit more salt and pepper to taste. An oversimplified answer of what an air fryer does is that it uses a fan to circulate super hot air around your food at a high rate of speed.

A heating element is at the top — and a fan circulates mega heated air around the cooking basket. Anything that cooks fries this well is a welcome addition to my kitchen. But I love my FrenchMay! You only need about a tablespoon to make your food shine. And extra virgin olive oil is one of the healthiest oils you can use when cooking.

After the third usage, I was feeling quite confident with the Airfryer and got thinking about fried foods that I well and truly love to eat. Who can resist prawn chips or pappadums? I sprayed these with olive oil and air-fried them in batches of 3 — 4 for a couple of minutes each. Plus they now have a clean and non-greasy taste! Store-bought frozen fries can be thrown straight into the Airfryer but I like to make mine from scratch.

For best results, waxy potatoes must be used. In total, the potatoes only spend about 15 minutes in the Airfryer and the results are beautiful non-greasy golden brown fries. These were a little trickier to air-fry as the sweet potatoes were shaved so thin, they clung onto each other once they were coated in a bit of oil.

So I had to be careful with how they were placed in the Airfryer but other than that, these were definitely a delicious wholesome alternative to its deep-fried twin! The explosions of chicken skin blistering in oil scares the heck out of me, but this time, all that occurred within the Airfryer, and saved me the pain of ducking and cleaning up! A dry rub of garlic, ginger powder, ground cumin and freshly ground pepper was rubbed on the chicken wings and then air-fried for just 10 minutes.

Finely chopped roast duck is mixed with chopped green onion, hoisin sauce and plum sauce and encased between two gow gee wrappers. These were air-fried and ready in about 10 minutes and were unbelievably scrumptious. By now, I was feeling a bit more adventurous and decided to make some prawn toast — the ultimate party food.

With the first batch, I forgot to adapt the recipe and mix oil into the bread crumbs so there was a noticeable dryer texture. By the second batch, we just kept demolishing these straight out of the Airfryer!

This only took about 15 minutes to prepare, 10 minutes per batch in the Airfryer and no effort in cleaning up as the Airfryer is dishwasher-proof! But more about that later. Inspired by another Donna Hay recipe , these eggplant sticks are air-fried for about minutes until crisp, sprinkled with sumac and served with a coriander, garlic, lemon juice, cayenne pepper and yoghurt dip. It was such an easy Middle-Eastern themed snack. How does it work? The Airfryer combines fast circulating hot air with a grill.

How much does it cost? It was also a relief to know that there was no possibility of getting burnt from random explosions of oil. The two major benefits I experienced with the Airfryer was how quick it cooked food, particularly with the convenience of the timer, which meant I could step out of the kitchen to do other things; and how the parts are removable, non-stick and fits into the dishwasher with ease!

You really did a good job testing though Jen- lots of options there. Looks like it does the job. Having said that, I think I would still let the restaurants do the frying for me if I have a crave.

I definitely like the versatility of this one. Hi Jen So I guess you can cook anything in it that would would normally cook in a fry pan? How long did each fry take and at what temperature? Where did you get the rack for the chicken wings? The one with the wide spaces so you can stand the wings between them standing on edge. I used a chunky garden veggie-style spaghetti sauce which I thought made a great difference in both texture and flavor. The eggplant stayed crisp, even after baking in the combined dish with the sauce; the flavor was excellent; and it was hearty enough to not taste like a meatless dish.

The little extra time it takes to bake the breaded eggplant slices first is well worth the effort. Did not enjoy this recipe. I love eggplant parmesan and this is a nice sized recipe.
